Tourist arrivals increase in Kanchenjunga area
In the first four months of the current fiscal year, 1,085 foreign tourists have visited the Kanchenjunga Himal.
KATHMANDU: The Kanchenjunga region has seen a rise in tourist arrivals, with both domestic and international visitors flocking to the area.
According to Tubhan Limbu, an information officer at the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, the number of foreign tourists visiting the Kanchenjunga Base Camp has increased significantly.
In the first four months of the current fiscal year, 1,085 foreign tourists have visited the Kanchenjunga Himal.
This is the highest number of foreign tourists to visit the area since 2057 BS (2000 AD). In the fiscal years 2056/57 and 2057/58, only 799 and 873 foreign tourists had visited, respectively.
Tourists are mainly coming from countries such as France, Australia, Germany, and the United States. During festivals, local hotels and lodges have been fully booked by domestic tourists, according to local hoteliers.
Fupuchohang Sherpa, a local hotel business owner, reported a 30% increase in hotel revenue this year.
The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council is actively working with local communities and businesses to promote tourism.
Local entrepreneurs are also working to improve tourism infrastructure, ensuring the development of sustainable tourism in the region.
