National Information Commission submits 16th annual report to PM Oli

KATHMANDU: The National Information Commission (NIC) presented its 16th annual report for the fiscal year 2080/81 to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today.

As per regulations, the report will be presented to the Federal Parliament through the Prime Minister.
On the same occasion, the Prime Minister unveiled a collection of “Significant Orders” issued during the NIC’s current five-year leadership term.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the need for collaboration between the government and the NIC to uphold the Right to Information (RTI).
He stressed that RTI should be established as a genuine right by ensuring relevant information is made accessible to concerned parties. Additionally, he underscored the importance of fostering democracy while discouraging anarchy.
Chief Information Commissioner Gurung highlighted that during their five-year tenure, the NIC received 5,182 appeals, of which 95% have been resolved.
The terms of Chief Commissioner Gurung and Commissioners Kamala Oli Thapa and Ratna Prasad Mainali are set to conclude on Dec 8.
