KATHMANDU: Former Australian cricketer and world champion Brad Hodge has arrived in Nepal to take on the role of mentor for the Sudurpaschim Royals in the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Hodge landed in Kathmandu on Monday and was warmly welcomed at the airport by the team’s owner, Swatantra Pratap Shah.
Hodge brings a wealth of experience from his illustrious career, having played in several franchise leagues around the globe.
The marquee player for the Sudurpaschim Royals is Dipendra Singh Airee, a standout cricketer from the Sudurpaschim State. Supporting the team alongside Hodge is head coach Jagat Tamatta.
The Royals have also signed four international players to strengthen their squad. The overseas lineup includes Brandon McMullen (Scotland), Saif Ali Zeb (England), Scott Kuggeleijn (New Zealand), and Rohan Mustafa (UAE).
In addition to these signings, the team secured several talented domestic players through the auction, including Aarif Sheikh, Abhinash Bohara, Binod Bhandari, Arjun Kumal, Khadak Bohara, Ishan Pandey, Naresh Budayair, Bhojraj Bhatt, Naren Saud, and Amit Shrestha.
The Royals also scouted local talent through a “Talent Hunt” program, selecting all-rounder Basant Khatri as their iconic player.
Notably, Arjun Kumal and Naren Saud are currently busy with the U-19 national team commitments.
With a robust blend of international and domestic talent, the Sudurpaschim Royals are set to make a strong impact in the upcoming NPL season.
