KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has directed authorities to present Durga Prasai before the court.

Prasai, who is currently in custody on charges of cybercrime, became the subject of a habeas corpus petition filed by his son, Nirajan Prasai.

The petition claims his detention is unlawful.

Justice Manoj Kumar Sharma’s bench issued a show-cause order to the government and instructed that Prasai be brought to court along with a response.

Prasai was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on allegations of spreading misleading information against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

He was detained last Tuesday from his residence in Bhaktapur. Investigations into multiple charges, including cybercrime, are ongoing against him.
