Rabi Lamichhane brought to court for probe into fraud & embezzlement

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been brought before the court.
He is being investigated for charges related to cooperative fraud, property embezzlement, and organized crime, with the police seeking an extension of his detention for further investigation.
Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu on Oct 18. In connection with the same case, Chhabilal Joshi, Leela Pahichai, and Ram Prasad Khanal have also been presented before the court.
According to the police, additional detention is necessary as the investigation is ongoing.
Chhavilal Joshi, arrested in relation to the embezzlement of funds from Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative, has already given a statement in Kathmandu.
Similarly, Joshi, who is under custody for embezzlement at the Surya Darshan Cooperative in Pokhara, was brought to Kathmandu to provide further statements due to additional complaints.
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Kathmandu District Court, the police are preparing to bring Lamichhane to Kathmandu for questioning.
