Rabi Lamichhane to appear in court for custody extension
This follows the completion of the 13-day custody period granted for investigation into allegations of cooperative fraud, property mismanagement, and organized crime.
KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane is set to appear in court today for an extension of his custody.
This follows the completion of the 13-day custody period granted for investigation into allegations of cooperative fraud, property mismanagement, and organized crime.
Lamichhane was arrested on Oct 18 in connection with the mismanagement of funds from the Surydarshan Cooperative, which is accused of misappropriating nearly five million rupees, allegedly funneled into the media company, Gorakha Media.
The police are now seeking further time to continue their investigation. Lamichhane, along with other key figures such as G.B. Rai, former manager Rabi Lamichhane, and operator Chabilal Joshi, has been implicated in a formal complaint.
The parliamentary investigative committee has also recommended further inquiry, which led to Lamichhane and Joshi’s detention.
The allegations also involve the Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan, where funds were allegedly misused for the benefit of Gorakha Media.
Despite the absence of any loan issued in Lamichhane’s name from Surydarshan or the Supreme and Sahara Cooperatives, the investigation reveals that the funds from these cooperatives were directed to Gorakha Media. Consequently, Lamichhane is under investigation for his involvement in these transactions.
RSP has claimed that Lamichhane’s arrest is politically motivated, asserting that it is an act of political revenge.
