Durga Prasai’s B&C Medical College gears up for MBBS classes
The college received approval from the National Medical Education Commission after securing a Supreme Court verdict.
KATHMANDU: B&C Medical College, led by activist Durga Prasai and located in Jhapa, has completed preparations to commence MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) courses.
The college received approval from the National Medical Education Commission after securing a Supreme Court verdict.
On Chaitra 13, 2080 BS, the Supreme Court directed granting affiliation to the college, following which Kathmandu University awarded the affiliation.
For the current academic year, the Medical Education Commission has allocated 50 seats for MBBS students at B&C.
College spokesperson Pramesh Giri stated that admissions are underway as per regulations.
He also confirmed the college has arranged adequate faculty, infrastructure, and educational resources to cater to 50 students in the first year.
A five-story “Basic Science Block” has been constructed in Dhaijan, Mechinagar-12, for academic purposes. Clinical science classes and training will be conducted at B&C Hospital in Birtamode-5, ensuring practical exposure for students.
“We have been preparing for MBBS classes for several years,” said Giri. “The science block in Dhaijan is well-equipped, and students will have access to B&C Hospital for clinical practice.”
The college plans to expand its capacity to accommodate up to 150 students in the coming years.
