Gov’t forces kill 10 Naxals in India’s Chhattisgarh gunfight
The government forces, according to police, have not suffered any damage while fighting these Naxals.
NEW DELHI: At least 10 Naxals were killed in a fierce gunfight with government forces Friday in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The gunfight between Naxals and contingents of police and paramilitary forces broke out in Bhejji police station area of Sukma district, about 498 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.
“Today morning a gunfight between Naxals and joint contingents of the police’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) broke out in a forest area falling under Bhejji police station. During the stand-off, 10 Naxals were killed and their bodies have been recovered,” a senior police official said.
The government forces, according to police, have not suffered any damage while fighting these Naxals.
Police also claimed recovery of a large number of arms and ammunition from the spot.
According to police, the operation was carried out on specific intelligence information suggesting the presence of Naxals in the area.
Meanwhile, the search operation in the area is still underway.
Last month at least 38 Naxals were killed in a single-day gunfight in central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
Reports said since the beginning of this year, over 200 Naxals have been killed in separate gunfights with government forces in the state.
