Govt granted relief as SC eases 20-meter buffer zone rule along riverbanks

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has decided to review its verdict requiring an additional 20-meter buffer zone along the riversides in the Kathmandu Valley.

A bench led by Chief Justice Prakashman Singh and Justices Dr. Kumar Chudal and Nityanand Pandey has granted permission for the review of the ruling.

With this, the government’s request to review the order to leave an additional 20 meters along the riverbanks has been accepted.

The Supreme Court has issued an order for the government to reconsider the decision.

For now, the Supreme Court has decided that structures within the previously mandated 20-meter zone along the riverbanks will not need to be removed.
