Doctor held for demanding money over phone

KATHMANDU: A 32-year-old doctor, Aashish Dahal, has been arrested for allegedly posing as an undercover agent of a criminal gang and extorting money through WhatsApp. O
riginally from Bhojpur Municipality-11 and currently residing in Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur, Dahal was apprehended by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku.
According to Police Superintendent Kaji Kumar Acharya, Dahal threatened individuals in the Kathmandu Valley, claiming to be associated with an underworld network.
He sent messages stating he could hire “contract killers” from Bihar and other regions, demanding sums ranging from Rs 50,000 to 200,000.
Based on information about his activities, police arrested him from Shankhamul, Kathmandu.
Dahal has been handed over to the District Police Office, Bhadrakali, for further investigation and legal action.
