Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi honored with guard of honor in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, currently on a five-day visit to Nepal, was accorded a Guard of Honor by the Nepali Army on Thursday morning.

General Dwivedi, who arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday, is scheduled to receive the honorary rank of Maharathi (Honorary General) from Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Paudel during a ceremony at Sheetal Niwas today. This tradition of conferring honorary ranks is a long-standing practice between the Nepali and Indian armies.
General Dwivedi is visiting Nepal at the formal invitation of Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma. During his visit, he will also pay tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial located at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel.
