KATHMANDU: Brazil was held to a 1-1 draw by Uruguay in the 2026 FIFA World Cup South American qualifiers on Wednesday morning.

The match saw Uruguay take the lead with a 55th-minute goal from Federico Valverde, but Brazil responded seven minutes later with a goal from Gerson to equalize.

After the equalizer, neither team managed to score again, and the match ended in a draw.

Following the result, Uruguay remains in second place with 20 points from 12 matches, while Brazil sits fifth with 18 points from the same number of games.

Argentina, currently at the top, secured a World Cup spot with a 1-0 win over Peru.
