KATHMANDU: Student leaders have started a hunger strike on Tuesday at the party’s central office in Paris Danda, demanding the postponed session of the 23rd National Convention of the All Nepal Revolutionary Student Union (Akhil Krantikari) be held on Dec 8.
Although the party had instructed that the postponed session be conducted on Dec 8-9 in Kathmandu, a debate has emerged within the party over leadership selection, suggesting that it may not be done through elections but through appointments.
This has led student leaders, including former vice president and central office chief Keshav Rawal of Akhil Krantikari, to begin their hunger strike.
With less than three weeks remaining before the convention process resumes, the absence of any circular from the party has made the session even more uncertain.
Rawal emphasized that the hunger strike was started to ensure that the postponed session begins on Dec 8 and that leadership selection be confirmed through elections.
According to Rawal, the student leaders on hunger strike are demanding that the remaining process of the postponed session be carried out on the previously scheduled date and that leadership selection occur through an election process as planned.
