Police arrest Satyaman Lama in cheque bounce case
Lama, originally from Temal, Kavre, and residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4, was apprehended by the District Police Complex Kathmandu.
KATHMANDU: The police have arrested Satyaman Lama, a notorious figure known as a “gunda leader,” on Sunday evening in connection with a cheque bounce case.
Lama, originally from Temal, Kavre, and residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4, was apprehended by the District Police Complex Kathmandu.
Lama had been sentenced by the Kathmandu District Court on April 9, 2024, to 2 years in prison, along with a fine of 30 million Nepalese Rupees and an additional 30 million in penalty for his involvement in the case.
Satyaman Lama’s associate, Satyaman Dawa Lama, has also been implicated in the matter.
In the past, Lama had been involved in various criminal activities, including smuggling of Buddha statues and red sandalwood.
He was also arrested in 2018 for allegedly looting Buddhist prayer beads from farmers.
Lama had previously been arrested multiple times for fraud. One notable incident was when he was accused of defrauding 17.5 million Nepali Rupees from earthquake victims in Kavre under the guise of building a hospital for them.
Police spokesperson, SP Nawaraj Adhikari, confirmed that Lama will be presented before the court for the execution of his sentence before being sent to prison.
