KATHMANDU: Former Chief Secretary of Nepal, Dr. Baikuntha Aryal, has resigned from his position.

Aryal, who was assigned a role equivalent to that of the Chief Secretary at the National Planning Commission, submitted his resignation on Sunday after a brief meeting with the staff at the commission.

His resignation letter was signed and officially registered at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The resignation is yet to be approved, according to senior officials at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Aryal was suspended after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority filed corruption charges against him regarding a 38 crore rupee scam in the printing of excise duty stickers. He was one of the senior officials implicated in the case, which included 11 accused individuals.

Following this, he was transferred to the National Planning Commission in July, where a special post was created for him.

After being acquitted of the corruption charges by the Special Court in November, his suspension was lifted.

However, by the time he returned to the Prime Minister’s Office with his acquittal letter, the position of Chief Secretary had been filled, and Aryal had been assigned to the Planning Commission.
