KATHMANDU: Former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana, who passed away on Sunday during treatment at Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor, Kathmandu, will be cremated on Monday with state honors.

The government has announced preparations to conduct his final rites with official recognition.

To facilitate this, a Cabinet meeting has been scheduled for Monday morning.

Dhungana was elected to the House of Representatives in 2048 BS (1991 AD) from Kathmandu Constituency No. 2 as a Nepali Congress candidate. He served as Speaker of the House from 2048 to 2051 BS.

A senior advocate by profession, Dhungana had been undergoing treatment for liver-related complications.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
