Leaders express condolences on passing of Former Speaker Damannath Dhungana
Former Speaker Damannath Dhungana passed away at the age of 83 today at 1:30 p.m. at Frontline Hospital.
KATHMANDU: The Chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), has expressed his condolences following the death of former Speaker of the House, Damannath Dhungana. On Sunday, Prachanda shared a message on social media, mourning Dhungana’s passing and offering tributes.
“The news of the demise of Damannath Dhungana, a prominent figure in Nepal’s democratic movement, former Speaker, and a leader in human rights and civil movements, has deeply saddened me. Nepal and its people will always remember his contributions to the country’s political and social change. I offer my heartfelt tributes to him and express my deep sympathy to his grieving family,” Prachanda wrote.
President Ram Chandra Paudel also expressed his condolences on social media. He conveyed his sadness over Dhungana’s death and extended his sympathy to the bereaved family.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Speaker Damannath Dhungana. He was a political leader, senior advocate, and a distinguished figure in the civil movement, whose contributions to the democratic movement will always be remembered. I extend my tributes to him and offer my condolences to his grieving family,” President Paudel stated.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of my friend, Damannath Dhungana, the first Speaker of the reinstated Parliament following the restoration of democracy in 1990. I remember his contributions to the protection of human rights and the promotion of parliamentary practices in Nepal. My heartfelt condolences go to his grieving family,” Prime Minister Oli said.
Also, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut paid tribute to former Speaker Damannath Dhungana. Raut visited the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj to offer his respects.
Former Speaker Damannath Dhungana passed away at the age of 83 today at 1:30 p.m. at Frontline Hospital in Banasthwar.
He had been undergoing treatment for some time due to complications related to his age.
Dhungana, a senior advocate, had passed away, and his body was placed in the morgue at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj.
Personal assistant Dr. Rudra Sharma confirmed that Dhungana’s funeral would be held tomorrow at the Pashupati Aryaghat.
