KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Centre has decided to back the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) in Kirtipur Municipality’s Ward 1.
Asta Man Maharjan, who was preparing to file his nomination amidst much fanfare, had to turn back before reaching the registration venue.
This decision came after the Maoist Centre officially announced its support for the JSP candidate in the ward.
Maharjan, adorned with tika, khada, and garlands, was en route to submit his nomination when he received the party’s directive.
Respecting the decision, he refrained from registering his candidacy and returned.
Despite the unexpected change, Maharjan expressed no disappointment, stating that he fully accepts the party’s decision and is committed to supporting the JSP candidate. He also assured that he would not file a rebel candidacy.
The JSP has fielded Saral Maharjan as its candidate for Ward 1.
