The initiative aims to create a wildlife-friendly environment, assist farmers in managing their barns, and control stray dogs in the area.
The solar panels were distributed by the Red Panda Network and the Himalayan Conservation Forum.
According to Ramesh Rai, program coordinator at the forum, 11 solar panels, each valued at approximately Rs 13,000, were provided to farmers belonging to the Harkate Gopala Group on Saturday.
The solar panels were specifically distributed to 11 mobile barn farmers.
Since Harkate is a habitat for red pandas, the solar panels aim to protect these animals from attacks by other wildlife during the night.
Farmers, who had been working in darkness for years, expressed their excitement upon receiving the solar panels.
Santa Bahadur Bista, one of the farmers, shared his joy, saying, “We spent years in darkness, but today we are extremely happy to live in the light.”
