KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) used a bulldozer on Friday afternoon to demolish illegal structures in the Gaushala area. The demolition was met with protests, and police detained Suman Sayami along with several others who had gathered in opposition.

Sayami has long raised concerns about the disruption caused by road expansion projects.

The police demolished five to seven houses in the area, which were built illegally on land designated for road widening. The local government had previously issued a notice on May 19, instructing residents to vacate the encroached properties. However, the structures were not removed, prompting the use of the bulldozer.

Before taking action, the metropolitan authorities held discussions with the local residents.
