Sri Lanka’s parliamentary election voting concludes

KATHMANDU: Voting for Sri Lanka’s parliamentary election, which began at 7 AM on Thursday, has concluded at 4 PM.

More than 8,000 candidates are contesting in this election, with over 17 million eligible voters participating.

The Sri Lankan Parliament has 225 seats, with 113 needed to form a majority government.

This election holds significant importance for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the National People’s Power (NPP) and his political rivals.

Dissanayake has promised a transformative agenda for Sri Lanka, which requires a solid parliamentary majority to advance his goals.
