Identity of 8 victims in Darchula accident revealed

KATHMANDU: The death toll in a jeep accident in Darchula has risen to eight. Six people died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries at Gokuleshwar Hospital.

According to DSP Prakash Dahal, the victims include 30-year-old Birendra Rawal and his 28-year-old wife Shanti Rawal from Lekgaun, Shaileshikhar-5, 45-year-old Dilip Bista and 45-year-old Meena Lekhak from Shaileshikhar-9, 15-year-old Sujit Bohara and 45-year-old Birendra Bohara from Dilasaini Rural Municipality-5, Baitadi.

Two of the deceased were Indian nationals—Mohammad Salir and Mohammad Basim, both from Uttar Pradesh.

Birendra Rawal and Meena Lekhak died at the hospital, while the others died at the scene.

The accident occurred this morning in Bakjebala, Shaileshikhar Municipality-6, when a jeep with the number plate M 1 Ja 338 plunged 300 meters down a cliff and got stuck in a tree.

The vehicle was en route to Gokuleshwar after participating in the Malikarjun Jatra.

The jeep was carrying pilgrims.

Four injured passengers were rescued and taken to Gokuleshwar Hospital for treatment, as per DSP Dahal.
