‘Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi’ becomes Nepal’s highest-grossing film

KATHMANDU: The Nepali film ‘Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi’, which was released on the 15th of Kartik (31 Oct )to coincide with the celebration of Laxmi Puja, has become the highest-grossing film in Nepal.

According to the producer, Binod Paudel, the film had earned a total of Rs 27 crore by its 14th day of release.

Paudel expressed his gratitude, stating, “We have no words to thank the audience for their love, both in Nepal and internationally, for our film, which is rooted in the traditional stories of our village life.

With this film, we have also put an end to the tendency of fearing foreign films, proving that when Nepali audiences are given the chance, they will embrace Nepali cinema.”

He further mentioned that by Tuesday, the film had grossed Rs 25.3 crore, and on Wednesday alone, it earned around Rs 2 crore.

The film continues to draw large crowds across the country, prompting the production team to begin a regional tour to thank the audience.

Paudel announced that they would start their tour from Gaighat in the east, visiting cinema halls in rural areas to express their gratitude to the viewers.

“We are starting our tour from Gaighat and will visit cinema halls in rural areas to thank the audiences. Their love has not only inspired us but also motivated new producers,” Paudel added.

Along with Paudel, the tour will feature actors Bijay Baral and Anjana Baraily, among others.

The film set a new record on its opening day, earning Rs 3.89 crore, making it the highest single-day grosser for any Nepali film.

It also achieved another milestone by screening in 98 cinemas and surpassing 465 shows on the same day.

Previously, the film Kabaddi 4: The Final Match held the record, having earned Rs 23.5 crore.
