Full immunization achieved for children under two in all 77 districts
The first districts to reach full immunization status were Achham and Palpa.
KATHMANDU: Recently, children under two years of age in Nuwakot have been fully immunized, marking a milestone where all 77 districts across the country now report full immunization of children in this age group.
Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, Chief of the Child Health and Immunization Division at the Department of Health Services, shared that every child under two in all 77 districts has now received complete immunization.
The first districts to reach full immunization status were Achham and Palpa.
Children under 15 months receive eight different vaccines that protect against various diseases. Completion of these doses qualifies as full immunization.
One of these, the BCG vaccine against tuberculosis, is administered to newborns shortly after birth as part of a government initiative.
The vaccination program covers a range of illnesses, including rotavirus, polio, pneumonia, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B, influenza B, Japanese encephalitis, rubella, and typhoid.
In particular, children are vaccinated against Japanese encephalitis at 12 months and receive immunizations for measles, rubella, and typhoid at 15 months.
Dr. Gautam further explained that if a child misses any of the scheduled vaccines before 15 months, they can receive them later, between 16 and 23 months, to complete their immunization series.
