KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane was presented at the District Government Attorney’s Office in Rupandehi for the second day of his statement recording.

He was brought in from the District Police Office in Butwal as part of an investigation into a fraud case involving Supreme Cooperative.

Lamichhane was transported from Kaski to Rupandehi on Tuesday. He is being investigated for allegedly misappropriating Rs 142.9 million from Butwal-based Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative by investing it into Gorkha Media Network Pvt. Ltd. During Tuesday’s statement, Lamichhane claimed he had not taken any money from the cooperative.

Following connections found between Pokhara’s Suryadarshan Cooperative and the funds from Supreme Cooperative in Butwal, he was flown to Bhairahawa Airport and then taken to the Area Police Office in Butwal. Upon completing his statement in Butwal, police are preparing to bring him back to Kathmandu.

In a related case, Kumar Ramtel, detained for fraud involving Suryadarshan Cooperative, will be sent to Kathmandu, as per a letter issued by Kaski Police.

Police investigations have revealed that funds from cooperatives run by Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, including Kathmandu’s Swarnalakshmi, Pokhara’s Suryadarshan, Butwal’s Supreme, Chitwan’s Sahara, and Parsa’s Sanopaaila, were transferred to Gorkha Media Network.

Lamichhane was the managing director of Galaxy Television, operated by Gorkha Media. The main suspect in the cooperative fraud case, GB Rai, remains at large.
