Preparations underway to transfer Rabi Lamichhane back to Kathmandu
Lamichhane, who was in police custody in Kaski for charges related to cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering, was flown to Bhairahawa in Rupandehi on Tuesday.
KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the president of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who has been arrested in connection with the embezzlement of cooperative funds, is set to be brought to Kathmandu for further investigation.
Lamichhane, who was in police custody in Kaski for charges related to cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering, was flown to Bhairahawa in Rupandehi on Tuesday.
This move came as investigations expanded to include his involvement in the mismanagement of funds from the Surydarshan and Supreme cooperatives in Pokhara and Butwal.
After completing his statement in Butwal, preparations are being made to transfer him to Kathmandu.
The police have also sent a request to Kaski police for the transfer of Kumar Ramtele, who was arrested in connection with the Surydarshan cooperative fraud, to Kathmandu.
The investigation began after it was revealed that funds were routed through several cooperatives operated by GB Rai, including Swarnalakshmi in Kathmandu, Surydarshan in Pokhara, Supreme in Rupandehi, Sahara in Chitwan, and Sanopaila in Parsa, which were linked to the Gorkha Media Network.
Lamichhane had served as the executive director of Galaxy Television, operated by Gorkha Media. GB Rai, the main accused in the cooperative fraud case, remains at large.
