Australia pledges support for Nepal’s development efforts

KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhattarai, had a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of Australia to Nepal, H.E. Lian Johnston, today.
The meeting, held in the office of Minister Bhattarai, focused on Nepal-Australia relations, as well as various mutual interests and concerns.
During the meeting, Minister Bhattarai highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between Nepal and Australia, established in 1960, noting the growing friendship, cooperation, and partnership between the two nations.
He expressed gratitude for the support received from Australia in sectors such as public health, livelihood, and human resource development.
In light of Nepal’s upcoming transition from a Least Developed Country to a Developing Nation in 2026, Minister Bhattarai pointed out that Nepal will require additional foreign aid and called the Ambassador’s attention to this need.
Ambassador Johnston responded positively to the concerns raised by Minister Bhattarai.
He assured his commitment to supporting Nepal’s development efforts and further expanding the Nepal-Australia relationship.
