Security tightened in Rupandehi as RSP President Rabi Lamichhane being taken for questioning

KATHMANDU: The government has tightened security in Rupandehi and surrounding areas following the arrival of Rabi Lamichhane, the president of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), in Butwal.

Security around Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Rupandehi has been heightened, with heavy deployment of Nepal Police and Armed Police personnel.
Lamichhane is expected to be flown from Pokhara, but his flight has been delayed due to poor weather conditions at the airport.
With Lamichhane’s arrival in Rupandehi, supporters of RSP are preparing for a demonstration in Bhairahawa. The party has instructed its members to gather in Bhairahawa by 10:00 AM.
Meanwhile, victims of the cooperative fraud are also planning a protest in front of the Government Attorney’s Office. This has raised the possibility of a dual protest, prompting additional security measures.
Lamichhane is accused of involvement in the Supreme Cooperative fraud case.
According to reports from the Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee and the police, a sum of Rs 19.6 million was transferred in Lamichhane’s name, along with Rs 142.9 million sent through other individuals to Gorkha Media Network.
He is being brought to Rupandehi for questioning regarding his involvement in this case.
Security arrangements have been strengthened from the airport to the Government Attorney’s Office to prevent any untoward incidents.
The police administration is on high alert to maintain peace and order.
