Vistara Airlines shuts down operations after merger with Air India
The airline made its final flight on Monday, Nov 11, marking the end of its service.
KATHMANDU: Vistara, India’s third-largest airline, has officially ceased its operations following its merger with Air India.
The airline made its final flight on Monday, Nov 11, marking the end of its service.
From today, all flights previously operated by Vistara will be managed by Air India. Passengers can now book tickets through Air India’s website.
The merger agreement between Air India and Vistara was signed in Nov 2022. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the deal in Sept 2023.
As a result of the merger, the Air India group has become the second-largest domestic airline in India, after IndiGo, and the largest international carrier from the country.
Post-merger, Air India will operate both full-service and budget airline services, making it the only Indian airline group to offer both.
The combined fleet now consists of 218 wide-body and narrow-body aircraft, serving 38 international and 52 domestic destinations.
Vistara, founded in 2013, was a leading full-service airline, primarily serving Eastern, Central Asia, and European routes.
