KATHMANDU: Hupsekot Rural Municipality of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) has decided to provide cash subsidy of Rs 20 per liter to the milk producer farmers.
Hupsekot Chairperson Laxmi Devi Pandey informed that the rural municipality, which provided a subsidy of Rs 7.5 per liter as of the last fiscal year, has increased the amount to Rs 20 per liter since this fiscal year.
She further said that the subsidy amount for small farmers would be provided based on the volume of milk sold through cooperatives in a fiscal year.
“We have made arrangements to provide subsidy based on the annual data provided by the milk cooperatives within the rural municipality”, she said, adding, “Our main goal is to increase milk production within the rural municipality by encouraging the farmers”.
According to the rural municipality’s annual budget for the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, a cash subsidy of Rs 20 will be provided per liter of milk sold by farmers associated with the milk cooperatives within the rural municipality.
It may be noted that the rural municipality had started providing subsidy of Rs 5 per liter since the fiscal year 2078/79 BS in order to increase milk production.
