BAGHDAD: A Turkish drone attack has killed three militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), including a senior official, in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, the regional Counter-Terrorism Service said Sunday in a statement.
According to the statement, a Turkish drone attacked a vehicle of PKK fighters in a village in the Chamanke area in northern Duhok province.
A Kurdish security source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that a PKK military official was killed in the Turkish airstrike.
Turkish forces frequently carry out cross-border operations targeting PKK militants in northern Iraq, with a particular focus on the Qandil Mountains, a stronghold of the group.
The PKK, designated as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States, and the European Union, has rebelled against the Turkish government for more than three decades.
