Rabi Lamichhane remanded in custody for 13 more days
Earlier, the court had approved his detention for 6 days initially, followed by another 7-day extension for investigation.
KATHMANDU: The District Court of Kaski has granted permission to keep the President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in custody for an additional 13 days for further investigation.
Lamichhane, who was arrested in connection with a cooperative fraud case, was presented before the court on Sunday, as the previous custody period ended. Judge Navraj Dahal’s bench authorized the extension of his detention for another 13 days.
Earlier, the court had approved his detention for 6 days initially, followed by another 7-day extension for investigation.
Lamichhane was arrested on the Oct 18 from the central office in Bansthali and was subsequently taken to Pokhara.
The Parliamentary Investigation Special Committee, led by Surya Thapa, had recommended action against Lamichhane for his involvement in misappropriating cooperative savings.
Following the committee’s report, the government decided to implement the recommendation, leading to Lamichhane’s arrest.
Lamichhane faces charges of cooperative fraud, money laundering, and organized crime. After his arrest, RSP has launched street protests demanding his release.
