Unauthorized wall of cooperative board building demolished
Lalitpur Metropolitan City cleared the wall with the help of a bulldozer on Sunday morning.
KATHMANDU: An unauthorized wall built at the premises of the National Cooperative Development Board in Harihar Bhawan, Lalitpur, was demolished.
Lalitpur Metropolitan City cleared the wall with the help of a bulldozer on Sunday morning following rulings from the District Court, High Court, and the Supreme Court, all declaring the structure illegal.
The wall, constructed without authorization on Jan 2, 2017, had been the subject of a Supreme Court order demanding its demolition, according to City Police Chief Sitaram Hachethu.
“The National Cooperative Development Board built this wall illegally on Jan 2, 2017. Due to various legal complications, the case was prolonged, but now with the court rulings, we have taken it down,” he explained.
A significant number of city police officers were deployed for the demolition. Meanwhile, local residents expressed dissatisfaction, claiming the board’s building had encroached upon the road leading to their homes.
Sarala Rajbhandari, a local resident, urged Lalitpur Metropolitan City to provide justice, alleging that the board’s building blocked the access route to their houses.
