President Ram Chandra Paudel departing for Azerbaijan
He is attending at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and will lead a high-level Nepali delegation.
KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel is heading to Baku, Azerbaijan, to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP-29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
He is attending at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and will lead a high-level Nepali delegation.
President Paudel is scheduled to address the “World Leaders’ Climate Action Summit” on Kartik 27, as part of the high-level session on Kartik 27 & 28. During the conference, Nepal will conduct a separate high-level session on Kartik 28, led by President Paudel, aiming to draw global attention to Nepal’s climate-related concerns and priorities.
The conference will also include a high-level session focused on “Addressing Climate-Induced Loss and Damage in Mountainous Regions.” Nepal, one of the countries most affected by climate change, will share insights on damages caused by climate-induced disasters in areas like Melamchi, Mustang, Kanchanpur, Thame, and the Kathmandu Valley, where floods and landslides have caused severe damage.
As a party to various climate conventions, Nepal has developed a National Adaptation Plan aiming for implementation by 2050. COP-29 will run from Kartik 26 to Manhsir 7, with President Paudel scheduled to return to Nepal on Kartik 30.
