Trump appoints Susie Wiles as Chief of Staff: Who is she?
Wiles is regarded as a powerful figure in American politics, and with this appointment, she becomes the first woman in U.S. history to hold this prestigious position.
KATHMANDU: Following his election as President, Donald Trump has started appointing key officials to important positions in the White House. One of his first appointments is Susie Wiles, who has been named Chief of Staff.
Wiles is regarded as a powerful figure in American politics, and with this appointment, she becomes the first woman in U.S. history to hold this prestigious position.
A prominent leader within the Republican Party, Wiles is one of two senior political operatives from Trump’s election campaign. She is the first to be appointed to a senior position in his administration.
Who is Susie Wiles?
Trump had praised Wiles for her role during his campaign in his first speech after his victory. American media outlets have described her as a politician who remains largely unknown and is often underestimated by others. In an exclusive interview with Politico last April, Wiles revealed that she came from a “very traditional background.”
She entered politics in 1980, just one year after starting her political career, when she worked on Ronald Reagan’s presidential campaign. In 2010, she played a pivotal role in getting businessman Rick Scott elected as Florida’s governor, despite his limited political experience. Scott is currently a U.S. senator.
Wiles first met Donald Trump in 2015 during the Republican primaries when she co-chaired Florida’s election campaign. In the 2016 election, Trump won Florida, securing 1.6% more votes than Hillary Clinton.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who had Wiles lead his gubernatorial campaign, praised her as the best choice for the job, further cementing her reputation as a skilled political strategist.
