KATHMANDU: Nepal made a winning start in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers, registering a dominant victory over Thailand.

Captain Pooja Mahato led Nepal’s charge with both bat and ball, playing a pivotal role in the victory.

She was instrumental in leading the team to success, showcasing her all-round abilities.

In a brilliant bowling display, Rachana Kumari Chaudhary claimed 4 wickets, while Pooja Mahato and Riya Sharma picked up 2 wickets each.

Karishma Gurung and Manisha Kumari Chaudhary also contributed with one wicket apiece.

Thailand won the toss and opted to field first. Nepal’s openers, Sana Praveen (5 runs) and Sabitra Dhami (7 runs), couldn’t make significant contributions.

However, Captain Pooja Mahato top-scored with 35 runs, and Sonia Pakhri contributed 19 runs. Jyotsinka Marasini made 4 runs, and Seema KC remained unbeaten on 19 runs.

Alisha Kumari Yadav was run out for 7 runs.

The tournament, which began today in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will run until 13th Nov.

Along with Nepal, the other teams participating in the qualifiers are UAE, Kuwait, and Thailand.
