KATHMANDU: The District Court of Kaski has granted permission to keep Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and former Home Minister, in custody for an additional 10 days for further investigation.

Lamichhane, who was arrested in connection with a cooperative fraud case, was granted the 10-day custody extension by the Kaski District Court on Tuesday.

The police had originally requested an additional 25 days for investigation.

The decision was made by Judge Chandrakant Paudel’s bench, and the information was provided to Makalu Khabar by Kaski District Court spokesperson Suraj Adhikari.

Previously, the court had allowed a 6-day period for the initial investigation of Lamichhane. He was arrested by the police on Kartik 2 (Oct 18) from the central office in Bansthali and was subsequently taken to Pokhara.

Lamichhane is alleged to be involved in the mismanagement of cooperative savings funds.

Following this, a special parliamentary investigation committee led by Surya Thapa recommended action against him, which the government decided to implement. This led to Lamichhane’s arrest.

After Lamichhane’s detention, RSP has launched street protests.
