Rabi Lamichhane presented in court for third time in cooperative fraud case
Lamichhane, currently in custody at the Kaski District Police Office, was brought to court today for an extension of his detention period.
KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who was arrested in connection with a cooperative fraud case, has been presented before the Kaski District Court for a further remand.
Lamichhane, currently in custody at the Kaski District Police Office, was brought to court today for an extension of his detention period.
Along with Lamichhane, former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, Leela Pachai, and Rambahadur Khanal, who were also arrested in connection with the same cooperative fraud case, were presented before the Kaski District Court earlier today for remand extensions.
Although the detention order given by the court to the Kaski Police expired on the 30th of October, Lamichhane’s appearance in court was delayed due to the Tihar holiday and has been scheduled for today.
Lamichhane was arrested on 18th October in connection with the misappropriation of funds from a cooperative’s savings. His detention was extended twice, on 20th and 24th November.
The case accuses Lamichhane and Joshi, among others, of being involved in organized criminal activity, involving the misuse of funds and fraud within the cooperative sector.
The charges, filed under the Organized Crime Act, allege that multiple groups colluded to embezzle funds.
