KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated former champions England in the opening match of the Hong Kong Sixes tournament.

Chasing a target of 98 runs set by England, Nepal reached it in just 4.2 overs without losing a wicket. Captain Sandeep Jora scored a blistering 50 runs off 13 balls, hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes.

Lokesh Bam remained unbeaten on 20 runs off 11 balls, with 1 four and 2 sixes. Earlier, England, batting first after winning the toss, scored 97 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

In the tournament, Nepal is in Group B with Australia and England. Nepal’s second match is against Australia on Nov 2. A total of 12 teams are participating, divided into 4 groups.

Group A includes defending champions South Africa, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, while Group B features Nepal, England, and Australia.

Group C has India, Pakistan, and UAE, and Group D includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Oman. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

The semifinals and final of the tournament will be held on Nov 3.

South Africa won the last edition in 2017, defeating Pakistan in the final. Each team fields six players per match in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament.
