KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank has initiated the sale of silver coins (medallions) targeting the upcoming Tihar festival, specifically on the occasion of Dhanteras.

The bank’s Taksar Division began sales on Sunday, offering both silver coins and gold coins.

The available silver coins feature designs of Laxmi, Ganesh, Gajalaxmi, and a cow, with weights of 10, 25, and 35 grams.

The coins are priced at Rs 2,200, Rs 5,500, and Rs 8,400, respectively.

According to the bank, the Laxmi, Ganesh, and Gajalaxmi coins are available in the 10-gram category, while the cow-engraved coin is offered in the 25-gram weight.

Due to a shortage of gold asarfees, the bank plans to limit sales to a single day on Oct 29, prioritizing the 2.5-gram silver coins.

In addition to the special coins for Tihar, the Taksar Division is also selling other unique silver coins.

These include a 15-gram Taksar Yanchak coin priced at Rs 4,400, a 25-gram Saarc Proof coin for Rs 7,500, and a 35-gram coin commemorating the Golden Jubilee of the central bank, priced at Rs 8,400.
