KATHMANDU: In a significant move, residents of Matim, a municipality in Sakela, have locked down the ward office following the prolonged absence of their elected chairman, Arjun Kumar Katwal, who has been in the United States for the past nine months.

The protest was organized by a coalition committee formed under the leadership of former ward Chair Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, who demanded immediate solutions to the ongoing issues caused by Katwal’s absence.

The committee was established on Aug 5, and it had previously issued a 15-day ultimatum for Katwal to return to his duties.

With no response from the chairman, the committee felt compelled to take this action.

Bhattarai stated, “We had no choice but to lock down the office after Katwal failed to return.” He further mentioned that the District Election Commission, the local executive body, and the District Coordination Committee have been informed about the situation.

Arjun Kumar Katwal was elected to his position as a member of the CPN (Maoist Centre).
