KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has imposed a ban on the sale, distribution, and use of plastic flower bouquets and garlands.

The decision was announced in an official notice published by the city’s Environment Management Department on Thursday.

The ban is part of the city’s annual policy and program, which prohibits not only single-use plastics but also the sale, distribution, storage, transportation, and use of plastic flowers and garlands, as well as bags thinner than 40 microns.

In place of plastic bags, the city has urged all producers, distributors, vendors, and the general public to use alternatives such as paper or cloth bags.

The Metropolitan’s monitoring team has warned that any violations of this ban will result in action under the KMC Environment and Natural Resource Conservation Act, 2020.
