KATHMANDU: Former Home Minister and Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has been summoned to court regarding allegations of misappropriation of funds related to the Surya Darshan Cooperative.

He appeared before the Kaski District Court on Thursday morning for an extension of his remand.

Also presented in court was former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, who was arrested in connection with the same case.

According to Kaski’s police chief, Shyam Babu Oli, further investigations are ongoing for both individuals.

Previously, Lamichhane had given his statement in the office of the chief government attorney of Kaski, Kamala Kafle. During his testimony, Lamichhane claimed that he had not taken any loans from the Surya Darshan Cooperative and clarified that the name “Rabi Lamichhane” written in the cooperative documents does not belong to him.

A committee formed by the Parliament to investigate cooperatives had reported that the funds from the cooperative were misrepresented in the media, suggesting Lamichhane’s indirect involvement in the embezzlement.

Lamichhane was arrested from Banasthali on Oct 18.
