SHIJIAZHUANG: Jiang Zhigang, former deputy Party chief of northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for accepting bribes, according to a verdict handed down by a court in Hengshui City, Hebei Province, on Wednesday.

Jiang was also fined 5 million yuan (701,804 U.S. dollars) and his illegal gains from bribery are turned over to the state treasury, the verdict said.

The court found that from 2003 to 2023, Jiang took advantage of his various posts in state organ as well as in Beijing and Ningxia to provide assistance to others in matters related to exclusive dealerships, project bidding and business cooperation, illegally accepting money and valuables worth over 79.98 million yuan in return.

Jiang was granted leniency in light of the fact that he had turned himself in, disclosed others’ criminal acts which were verified, showed remorse and returned his illegal gains, according to the court.

He was previously expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office in August 2023.
