Agriculture Minister bats for fishery business for sustainable economic growth

CHITWAN: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has said that fishery business has crucial roles in attaining Nepal’s sustainable economic growth.

Inaugurating an International Conference on Aquaculture and Fisheries in Chitwan today organized by Nepal Fisheries Society, Minister Adhikari stated that the government has given top priority for production of quality fisheries and food and nutrition security.

On the occasion, Minister Adhikari pointed out supplies of quality products, high costs in infrastructure development, mechanization, poor digitization and market access as the key challenges in Nepal’s fishery business.

In the inaugural session of the conference, Vice Chancellor Nepal Academy of Science and Technology Prof Dr Dilip Subba, Acting Vice Chancellor of Agriculture and Forestry University Prof Dr Sharada Thapaliya, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and

Livestock Development Dr Rajendra Prasad Mishra, Executive Director of NARC Dr Dolraj Khanal and others spoke on production of fish in Nepal, technology, marketing and other aspects.

As high as 200 scientists, professors, researchers, fishery development officers, entrepreneurs, farmers and students are attending the conference from 10 different countries including India, China, Bangladesh, Thailand, Hungary, Japan, USA, the Philippines, Malaysia and Nepal.
