KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has directed parliamentary committees to present bills under consideration in the upcoming session.

During a meeting held today at his office in Singha Durbar, Speaker Ghimire met with committee chairs and chief whips of major political parties to discuss the status of the bills.

At the meeting, Speaker Ghimire inquired about the number of bills pending in each committee and the time required for their approval, according to Abdul Khan, Chair of the Industry, Commerce, Labour, and Consumer Welfare Committee.

The committee chairs informed the Speaker that no meetings had been held since the end of the previous parliamentary session. Many MPs had returned to their home districts, resulting in a lack of quorum for committee meetings, said Khan.

Speaker Ghimire convened this discussion at 11:30 a.m. with the chairs of the committees tasked with reviewing bills, along with the chief whips of major political parties. The Speaker’s aim is to ensure that there will be no shortage of legislative business in the upcoming parliamentary session.

The meeting was attended by UML Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartoula, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, CPN-Maoist Centre Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi.

UML Chief Whip Bartoula stated that the Speaker’s primary directive was to schedule committee meetings to expedite the legislative process.
