Woman who was set on fire by husband with petrol dies

KATHMANDU: A 40-year-old woman, Purnakumari Rai, has died after her husband, 48-year-old Dan Bahadur Rai, allegedly doused her with petrol and set her on fire during a domestic dispute in Belaka Municipality-8, Udayapur, on Oct 8.

Purnakumari suffered severe burns and was receiving treatment at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, where she succumbed to her injuries, according to Inspector Suman Baniya from the District Police Office.

The deceased’s body was handed over to her relatives after a post-mortem examination on Monday.

Police have taken Dan Bahadur into custody for further investigation into the incident at the Ramapur Police Station.
