KATHMANDU: Tunisian President Kais Saied, who was re-elected, took the oath of office on Monday at the headquarters of Tunisia’s House of Representatives in the capital, Tunis.

In his address, President Saied pledged to safeguard the independence of the homeland and protect the integrity of its territory.

He also vowed to respect the country’s constitution and laws, while remaining loyal to its interests.

Saied emphasized the importance of addressing the major challenges of combating terrorism and fighting corruption.

According to Article 92 of the Tunisian Constitution, an elected president takes an oath before assuming office for a five-year term.

After securing 90.69% of the vote in the Oct 6 presidential election, Saied was re-elected for a second term.

Presidential elections are held every five years in Tunisia.

The 66-year-old has been in office since 2019.
