KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has expressed opposition to introducing an ordinance related to political parties.

He stated that party splits are not beneficial for democracy and that such an ordinance should not be brought forward.

Koirala accused the CPN-UML of trying to fragment smaller parties and merge them into its own.

He remarked, “There is suspicion that some small parties are being divided to merge with UML. It seems this law is being proposed for that purpose.”

He further added that, although UML might claim the law is for stability, its implementation would lead to more instability.

Koirala emphasized that introducing such a law would go against the spirit of the constitution and harm the country’s democracy.
