KATHMANDU: Mongolia has emphasized the importance of protecting the rare snow leopard on the eve of International Snow Leopard Day, celebrated every year on Oct 23.

The event, organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Mongolia, was held in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar, focusing on snow leopard conservation efforts.

The program featured a photography exhibition showcasing stunning images of snow leopards.

Mongolia aims to raise awareness about the urgent need for effective conservation measures to protect their habitat.

The country is home to the second-largest population of snow leopards after China, with around 1,000 adult snow leopards residing in the Altai, Sayan, and Hangai mountain ranges, which span approximately 328,900 square kilometers.
